Frequently Asked Questions:

What does a site fee include?
- A site fee includes set-up, maintenance and updates
for one year from the date that the site goes live. Your credit card
information will be needed for Domain registration and
Hosting fees.
- How long will I own my personal or business Domain?
- You may purchase your Domain in differing
increments. You may want to grasp some special offers that are
currently underway which allow purchase of Domain names for 10 years.
This would secure your Domain name for 10 years. Domains are available
for purchase for one year or two years also.
- How will I be billed?
- You will be billed upon completion of your site. You will have the
chance to provide input and modify any or all pages until you are
satisfied. Upon your satisfaction, you will be billed by Alleghany
Creative Web Designs. Take note that this fee will not include your Domain
registration or Hosting Services. This
must be paid directly to provider.
- Can you do specialized animations?
- Alleghany Creative Web Designs currently uses a selection of animations
from different sources from the Internet, but will soon be designing
specialized animations for individuals, clubs and businesses.
- What do I need to do to get started?
- To begin, you will need to gather together the information that you would
like to include in your site. This may be pictures, brochures,
posters, etc. Any information that would be pertinent in grabbing the
attention of web surfers. Your input is CRUCIAL! Once this information is gathered and we've talked about what you'd like to do with
your site whether it be selling your products or providing information on
the location of your business, or even possibly information about your club
or organization, we'll decide on the cost, and then Alleghany Creative Web
Designs will go to work in creating a site to match your needs!

- Browser:
- A browser is the software program that requests, retrieves, interprets,
and displays the content of a Web page on your computer. Internet
Explorer and Netscape are popular browsers.
- Domain name:
- A Domain name is an IP address that uses words instead of numbers, such as
www.dl.vccs.edu instead of its IP
equivalent.
- Hosting:
- Hosting is computer or Web Server space for Web pages that a company
provides to other companies, businesses, clubs or individuals usually at a
monthly rate, but some Internet Service Providers may provide a set amount of
space for free if you use their service such as AOL or you may use free
space at Tripod, Lycos or other providers.
- InterNic Fees:
- InterNic is a company database of all Domain names. A fee is charged
to purchase your particular Domain (www.yourcompany.com) IF it is
available. This fee is generally about $35.00 per year, but some
specials may apply.
- IP addresses:
- An IP address or Internet Protocol is a specific number that consists of
four sets of numbers, separated by periods that identifies a certain server
or computer. (ie. 141.208.152.119).
- Mailbox direct:
- Mailbox direction takes place when you purchase a Domain name and you
would like to have mailboxes (e-mail) that specifies that Domain in its
address. (ie. www.BigCountry101.com
may have e-mail addresses such as: Tracie@BigCountry101.com,
and this e-mail may or may not be redirected or forwarded to another e-mail
address that you specify).
- Maintenance:
- Maintenance of a site includes making sure that the site is working
properly and available online to be viewed.
- Updates:
- Updates on the site would include text updates to existing text, or to
change and existing animation or picture. Updates apply to existing
media being represented only.
- URL:
- A URL is a "Uniform Resource Locator", and it is what you type
in your browser, the address, for your start page. Every resource on
the Internet has its own URL.
- Web Server:
- A Web Server is a computer that stores Web pages of different kinds and
types and, hopefully, keeps an Internet connection 24-7 so that other web
surfers will be able to find and look at your Web pages at any time of the
day or night.
